The Full English Breakfast

Who doesn’t love a good fry up!

If you don’t enjoy a full english breakfast at least once during a trip to the UK, I would be very surprised. A staple of the British menu and I would argue more of a national dish than fish and chips. Outside of the city, (where you may have a continental breakfast) its served at most hotels and all bed & breakfasts.

What you get varies, but essentially it’s

  • eggs
  • bacon
  • sausages
  • tomatoes
  • mushrooms
  • fried bread or hash browns
  • baked beans
  • black pudding
  • Not forgetting a steaming mug of tea.

People are often put off by the black pudding, which essentially is pigs blood, fat, onion, oatmeal. I love it but its not to everyones taste, probably people who know whats in it! Baked Beans too are a British thing, but lovely. Most kids grow up eating beans on toast, a sunday evening staple in my parents house.

A ‘Full English’ is a hearty way to start the day, it’ll set you up nicely for a days exploring, sightseeing and shopping. Not the healthiest of options but when your on holiday, healthy eatng doesnt really come in to it in my opinion.

The video above from Anglophenia is an amusing watch, that may even encourage you to cook your own fry up. Enjoy!
