Getting to the Cotswolds from London.

Arriving in the Cotswolds by car

This is an often asked question. Read on to find out how best to travel here.

By train

The North Cotswolds

First time visitors are most likely to come to the north Cotswolds, and if  that is the case you have a few options depending on what part of the Cotswolds you’re visiting.

Direct trains leave Paddington station approximately every hour heading towards Oxford and then The Cotswolds.

The most popular station is Moreton in Marsh. We often meet people from here to start their tour as its a convenient place from where to go straight to Stow on the Wold, Bourton on the Water, Chipping Campden etc. Moreton in Marsh is also a market town with plenty of shops, pubs, hotels etc.

One station before Moreton in Marsh is Kingham. It’s a fifteen minute walk from the station to the village centre but if you’re meeting a driver there it’s also very convenient especially if you’re wanting to see the village or Daylesford Organic Farmshop nearby.

Journey times are 90 minutes from London to Moreton in Marsh and 85 minutes to Kingham station.

If you are visiting Bibury or Cirencester, you can take a train to Kemble from London Paddington with a slightly shorter travel time of 1hr 15 minutes. From there it’s a 20 minute journey to Bibury or 15minutes to Cirencester.

Cheltenham Spa on the western edge of The Cotswolds is also reachable from London by train. At the time of writing, journey times are two hours with a service every hour.

The South Cotswolds.

The South Cotswolds is served by Chippenham and Bath stations and convenient for visiting if you’re visiting the South Cotswolds, Castle Combe, Lacock and of course Bath. Journey times are 1hour 10 minutes to Chippenham, and 1hr 20minutes to Bath leaving from London Paddington.

By plane

Heathrow airport (West of London) is 90mins to two hours by car from the north Cotswolds.

Gatwick airport (South of London) is 2hrs 30mins  by car away from The Cotswolds.
