Beginning in the north of the Cotswolds, our Cathedral and Abbey Tour takes you through the region and just over the border into Wales, visiting world acclaimed historic churches.
The tour has been created for those with a keen interest in religious history but will also be enjoyed by those with an interest in Harry Potter and excellent lunches and afternoon teas!
You will be delighted and stand in awe at the world-class cultural and heritage destination of Gloucester Cathedral, once the Cathedral Church of St. Peter and the Holy and Indivisible Trinity.
The two Abbeys in the Wye Valley, Tewkesbury and Tintern will delight and fascinate the historians among you with their differences – Tewkesbury still hosts regular religious worship, whilst Tintern is roofless, described as a majestic ruin… Both built in the 1100s they are rich in religious and political turmoil.
Worcester Cathedral, Hereford Cathedral, Pershore Abbey and Hailes Abbey can also be part of the tour according to your personal tastes. We would be very pleased to tell you more about each site to assist you in choosing which destinations to include on your Cathedral and Abbey tour.
Lunch on your tour will be at the Tudor Farmhouse, in the village of Clearwell where you can enjoy a mix of historical charm and modern amenities amid the Forest of Dean. The restaurant, described by Tatler Magazine as “a culinary oasis”, serves delicious, homely meals using ingredients from the kitchen garden and local suppliers. And there is a wonderful choice of award-winning wines on offer too.

Our suggested itinerary can be varied to include a choice of other equally attractive destinations.
9:00am: Our private chauffeur guide will collect you from your north Cotswold hotel or from Cheltenham railway station at the later time of 9:30am, if you are visiting the Cotswolds for the day from London.
9:30am: Tewkesbury Abbey
11:15am: Tintern Abbey
12:30pm Lunch at the Tudor Farmhouse
2:30pm: Gloucester Cathedral, with afternoon tea
5:00pm: Return to your hotel or Cheltenham railway station.
