The Cotswolds, with its picturesque villages, rolling hills, and quintessential English charm, is a dream destination for many. As a seasoned traveler who’s possibly experienced the UK before, you’re undoubtedly looking forward to a blend of luxury, adventure and allure. Here’s a comprehensive guide on what to pack to ensure you enjoy the Cotswolds to the fullest.
Clothing essentials
Layers: The weather in the UK as you may know can be rather changeable, the Cotswolds included. Some villages and some of the best views may be up in the hills and so a bit windy. We’d recommend packing a range of layered clothing to adapt to the changing temperatures. Light sweaters, long-sleeved shirts, and comfortable t-shirts are a must.
Waterproofs: Even in summer we’re quite used to a heavy rainfall, so many people bring packable lightweight waterproof jackets, just in case. Look for one that is breathable yet capable of keeping you dry during unexpected showers.
Comfortable walking shoes: The Cotswolds are known for walking trails and charming villages. Pack sturdy, comfortable walking shoes suitable for both countryside trails and cobblestone streets.
Smart casual attire: For evenings out, dining at fine restaurants, or visiting historic estates, include a few smart casual outfits. A nice dress or a pair of slacks with a crisp shirt can go a long way.
Practical accessories
Sun protection: On sunnier days, you’ll need sunblock, sunglasses, and a wide-brimmed hat to protect yourself from UV rays. The average temperatures of June, July and August last year ranged between 64°F and 71°F (18 – 22°C), but we have been known to reach the dizzy heights of 100°F!
Travel umbrella: A compact, sturdy travel umbrella can be a lifesaver when sudden rain showers appear, don’t be lulled into a false sense of sunshine! However, when you’re with us we do have umbrellas to hand in all our chauffeur driven cars. We’d also recommend a reasonably accurate weather app from the BBC so you can check each morning before heading out.
Tech and gadgets
Camera: The Cotswolds’ scenic beauty is unparalleled. Bring a good-quality camera to capture the stunning landscapes, historic architecture, and memorable moments.
Power bank: Ensure your devices stay charged while you’re out and about by carrying a power bank.
Travel adapter: Don’t forget a UK travel adapter (three pin) for your electronics. Our selected hotels provide hairdryers and irons, and some provide clothes steamers upon request, but you’ll need to bring other items such as hair stylers… It might also be useful to know that some of our selected accommodations include a safe for your laptops too.
NB: Travel adapters and power banks are readily available in the larger supermarkets in towns.
Luxury and Comfort
Travel pillow and blanket: For a touch of comfort during your journey, pack a travel pillow and a lightweight blanket. However, these items are included in your chauffeur driven vehicle for those little emergencies!
Reading material: Whether it’s a novel, travel guide, or a tablet loaded with your favorite books, having something to read can enhance your relaxation during downtimes. The Agatha Raisin novels are set in the Cotswolds, as are the Inspector Morse Mysteries if you fancy something with a local flavor… Or for something a little more classic, try Jane Austin who lived in Bath and is thought to have drawn inspiration from the village of Adlestrop.
With these items in your suitcase, you’ll be well-prepared to enjoy the Cotswolds in comfort and style. Embrace the natural beauty, the historic charm, and the luxurious experiences awaiting you in this enchanting part of England. Happy travels!
