Things to do in the Cotswolds

A few weeks ago, I wrote about whether the Cotswolds is the most beautiful region in the UK, so we thought we’d follow it up with a more practical travel guide, offering readers activities and attractions to see and do in the Cotswolds. This beautiful area is packed with majestic hills, gentle rivers, idyllic villages, and majestic manors; there’s a little something for everyone and we’d like to pack as many worthwhile things to do into one short guide. If anything in this guide inspires you to visit, please take a look at our luxury tours in the Cotswolds.

Enjoy a Walk During Lavender Season

Snowshill Lavender farm

Have you ever walked through lavender fields with purple and lilac hues in all directions? We have, and it’s rather lovely. If this appeals to you, make sure you visit any time from late July until early August. You can visit the Cotswold Lavender Farm or just ask your Rosehill driver to take you to their personal favourite lavender location.

Antique Hunting in Tetbury and Cirencester

The Cotswolds may just be the best place in Britain for people who love scouring the land for beautiful antiques. Many of the towns and villages have great antique shops, but Tetbury and Cirencester stand above the rest. Not only are both towns packed full of beautiful buildings and plenty of character, they’re also packed full of antique shops. Whether you’re serious about finding a few lost treasures or you just like pottering about looking at old things, an afternoon antique hunting in Tetbury or Cirencester is always worth it.

Ride a Classic English Steam Train in Gloucestershire

Britain invented trains, so it stands to reason that it would have some of the oldest train lines (and trains) in the world. Well, you’ll be happy to hear that it does. And you’ll be equally happy to hear that Gloucestershire has a stunning steam train route through the beautiful Cotswolds countryside. Find out more on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway website.

Visit Batsford Arboretum

In the small market town of Moreton-in-Marsh, you’ll find one of the most peaceful and idyllic parkland in England. This arboretum has one of the most varied collections of trees in the country. Anyone will enjoy walking through Batsford Arboretum, but it is a particularly nice place to bring children as there will be many different species of trees for them to discover for the first time.

Take a Luxury Tour of the North Cotswolds

With so much classic English architecture and heritage, you will be reminded of your favourite historical films and period dramas. Lean into this sense of luxury by enjoying your own private tour with your own personal chauffeur. Read about our full-day North Cotswolds driver-guided tour if this sounds like the perfect way to explore one of the most special places in England. Walk from Broadway High Street to Broadway Tower

Broadway TowerFor any who visit, Broadway is one of the most beautiful villages in the Cotswolds, so it’s worth visiting for this alone. However, the 4-mile walk from Broadway’s high street to the impressive Broadway Tower and back is the best way to experience this little haven of English countryside. The rural views are unforgettable, but the star of the show is Broadway Tower, which stands proud atop Broadway Hill — the second-highest point in the Cotswolds.
We have only scratched the surface of the myriad things you can do in the Cotswolds, but we hope you feel suitably inspired by this short guide. It’s Rosehill Travel’s privilege to show guests around this area of outstanding beauty and rich heritage, and we can’t wait to welcome you here once it is safe to do so.
