Lovely places to go antiquing in the Cotswolds

One of the most pleasurable ways to while away a couple of hours on a Cotswolds holiday or short break is to visit one or two of the nicest antique shops in the area. This blog explores antiquing in the Cotswolds by north and south, so you can easily choose which one to add a visit to during your stay.

North Cotswolds antique shops

HUDSON’S Home & Antiques ∙ Stratford-upon-Avon

With 16,000 square feet over two floors, you’re bound to find something to capture your interest at Hudson’s Home & Antiques. Despite the vast amount of shopping space, Hudson’s offers a warm atmosphere, inviting shoppers and browsers to move from one remarkable space to the next.

You’ll find a delightful mix of old and new here, expertly styled by interior designers to showcase how eras can blend perfectly together. And there’s a wonderful café serving fresh coffee, lunches and snacks.  

Hudson’s is also close to Shakespeare’s birthplace and Anne Hathaway’s Cottage.

The Malthouse Collective ∙ Stroud

Self-declared as the largest antiques centre in the Cotswolds (we have yet to ascertain if this is accurate!), The Malthouse Collective houses 60+ dealers in antiques. This allows you to visit a broad spectrum of beautiful things, housed indoors and out.

They are also very proud of the Brick and Brew café…

Close by are Painswick Rococo Garden and of course Painswick Hotel.

Saintbury Co · Near Broadway

Affectionately known as ‘Baggotts’ this is a collection of fine antique furniture and furnishings, once belonging to the gentlefolk and nobility of town and country houses from the English 17th to the 19th Century. One of the most popular spots for antiquing in the Cotswolds and indeed markets in the Cotswolds, is Cirencester Antiques and Collectible Market. Open every Friday to around 50 highly respected dealers, you could spend the best part of a day perusing the offerings.

You’ll find all kinds of treasures here, including the traditional ceramics, clocks, glass, jewellery, furniture, silver and paintings, to more modern collectors’ items such as postcards, coins, vintage clothing and architectural brassware.

Brownrigg ∙ Tetbury

Brownrigg presents vintage and antique items from around Europe including larger items of furniture to smaller ceramics and leather items. Well-established and respected purveyors of early 17th century to mid-20th century interior items, you’ll be delighted by the eclectic mix curated by the owners.

All items at Brownrigg are beautifully displayed in the charming shop near to Chavenage House, the location for Poldark and Jilly Cooper’s Rivals.

Tetbury boasts many more places for antiquing in the Cotswolds

Tetbury lies on the site of an ancient hill fort on which an Anglo-Saxon monastery was founded in 681. It is the second largest town in the Cotswolds (Cirencester being the largest) and is home to King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
