8 Most romantic spots to propose in the Cotswolds

So, you’ve arranged a special trip to England to visit the beautiful Cotswolds and have chosen this holiday as the perfect time to propose to the love of your life. But where are the most romantic spots to pop the question?

Bursting with natural beauty, we’re sure our chosen proposal destinations will capture your heart the way you have captured theirs…

Barnsley House Hotel

Described as ‘classically romantic’ you could book the secret garden suite at Barnsley House, between Burford and Cirencester, and retreat to the enchanting garden to make your proposal under the laburnum walkway. Or perhaps you’d prefer to pop your question over a romantic dinner in the fine dining restaurant?

Bibury

On the way to Barnsley, you’ll pass through one of the most recognised Cotswold images, Arlington Row at Bibury. But the bridge over the River Coln provides one of the most instagrammable vistas. A popular destination for weddings and romantic getaways, make a day of it by visiting The Swan Hotel for lunch and take a romantic stroll to build up the courage for asking the big question.

Westonbirt Arboretum

Why do trees seem to have a magical presence? At Westonbirt Arboretum you will follow meandering paths in beautiful scenery, leading you through thousands of rare and stunning trees. The Barn Walk for example is around 6 minutes long, with the pretty Silk Wood Barn around halfway round, which would make a lovely place to get down on one knee. Choose to propose in autumn and you’ll both be treated to a spectacular array of dazzling canopy colours.

Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens

If you’re animal lovers, The Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens are a fabulous place to take your beloved. Whether it’s giraffes, snakes, rhinos or some of the smaller, sweeter animals that capture your interest, you will find plenty of lovely spots to stop and surprise your other half.

Broadway Tower

A very popular visitor destination on our Cotswold tours is the 65 foot tall, 18th century folly, set in 200 acres of lush English rolling hills. Take a gentle walk around the park, arrive at Broadway Tower and gaze out over the Cotswolds in all their glory. Will your question take their breath away as quickly as the location?

Blenheim Palace

Interestingly, 18th century landscaper, Capability Brown who designed the Broadway Park was also responsible for the wonderful gardens surrounding Blenheim Palace, where Sir Winston Churchill found the ideal spot to propose to his beloved Clementine. The Temple of Diana. Blenheim Palace has not only a romantic maze where you could lose yourselves in the playful side of the formal garden, but a butterfly house, a rose garden, the famous Grand Bridge which features in many movies and of course many secluded lakeside spots.

Painswick Rococo Garden

Another excellent choice for beautiful garden proposal spots is Painswick House and its 18th century Rococo Garden. This style was famed for the flamboyant and decadent use of ornamental decoration showed off in sensational structures such as The Red House, Eagle House, the Exedra Folly and many charming statues and works of art dotted throughout the garden. If whimsy is what you’re looking for, this is the proposal spot for you.

Cam Peak

Along the wonderful walk called The Cotswold Way you’ll come across Cam Peak. Catch it at the right time of year and you’ll find it covered in a thick blanket of bluebells, but you’ll always find it utterly astonishing. For the more athletic among you, this is where to find long romantic walks, including a 3.5-mile circular route to the top of the peak, taking you over 700 feet up over the Cotswolds.

Of course, you may choose to ask the most important question of your life in front of a roaring fire, floating in a gently bubbling spa or cosied up in a plump duvet at your luxurious hotel…

However, and wherever you plan to do it, you can count on us to help you make it the perfect proposal.
